The Glowglobe is a replica of one of my favourite movie props. These floating lamps produce an incredible mood for some of the most critical scenes in the movie. With limited close ups, it was hard to see some of the finer details— I’d love to know what the original designers think!

The subject is taken from Ovid’s Metamorphoses: Achelous was Hercules’ rival for the love of Dejanery; during the battle, Achelous turned into a snake but was defeated by Hercules. Thus Hercules made himself loved by Déjanire. Got together with a bunch of my buddies one morning and we all took tons of photos (1780) while another friend flew a drone over and around the arch to get the above photos (another 1739).
Here’s a screengrab that shows all the camera angles we captured, including the drone shots:
The arch is over 24 meters (80 feet) tall and it’s right in the middle of a high traffic intersection, so it presents many challenges, and I’m not even talking about all the trees around it.
It’s my first large-scale scan and I hit so many walls with getting it to come out well, largely because ZBrush has a 50 million polygon limit. Anyway, this is the first of many.
