Edifié en 1552 par François Colas des Francs, bourgeois marchand d’Orléans, le cabinet conservait ses archives et son trésor. Il est remarquable par sa riche décoration intérieure d’époque Renaissance. Il fut successivement la propriété de la Congrégation des Petites Soeurs Dominicaines puis de l’Etat puis de la Ville d’Orléans. Rescapé des bombardements de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il agrémente le jardin Jacques-Boucher.

Today, she is mainly remembered for a legend dating back to at least the 13th century, in which she rode – covered only in her long hair – through the streets of Coventry to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation that her husband, Leofric, imposed on his tenants.
