Her bedroom was the brightest and cosiest of all the rooms
in the house. The window was small, but the warm rays of
sunlight shone brightly on the little girl’s face as she filled the
Unicorn pot with soil. Into that soil, she placed a succulent
cutting that she’d kept in a jar.
The man was repairing his hunting boots at the kitchen
table. His eyes focussed on his work. She walked towards
him to show him the plant, but decided to leave him be.
‘You take good care of that plant now and it will grow the
prettiest flower you’ve ever seen.’ he said over his shoulder.
A gentle smile suddenly transformed his stern face.
