1812 eröffneten die mit Beethoven befreundeten Wiener Klavierbauer Nannette und Andreas Streicher einen Klaviersalon, den sie mit Büsten berühmter Musiker schmücken wollten. Deshalb beauftragten sie den Bildhauer Franz Klein mit der Herstellung einer Beethoven-Büste. Um diese möglichst lebensnah zu gestalten, nahm Klein als Vorlage zunächst eine Lebendmaske aus Gips ab. […] Ein früher Nachguss der Maske ist vor dem Geburtszimmer zu sehen; ein Abguss der Originalbüste befindet sich schon seit 1890 im Beethoven-Haus.
