This business-class sedan produced by Alfa Romeo from 1987 to 1998. It was the flagship model of the brand. A total of 273857 cars were produced.
In October 1978, Alfa Romeo, FIAT, Lancia and SAAB came to an agreement to develop separate business class models on the Type Four platform, thus, such cars as the Alfa Romeo 164, Saab 9000, Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema appeared in the development process. . The FIAT and Lancia models were similar to the Saab in many ways, while the Alfa Romeo 164 shared only the chassis with them.
The 164 was designed by Enrico Fumia of Pininfarina. In 1993, the design of the model was slightly updated. Over the years of production, cars have been equipped with a wide range (16 versions) of V-shaped and in-line engines ranging 2-3 liters. Some versions were equipped with turbocharging and/or valvetrain. 2 versions of the car out of 16 produced had a diesel engine.
