Another 1 and a half week project of a medieval heavy crossbow. Inspired after a portfolio critique and been wanting to create a medieval/fantasy inspired piece for some time now. Modelling done in Maya with certain detailed parts such as the wood carvings and stock ornaments done with the help of Zbrush and photoshop. Textured with substance painter and rendering done on Unreal engine 5. This might be my last project in a while since I have an actual full time job that I have to attend to, however I will be back with more projects in the future and will keep on improving my skills as required. The crossbow reappeared in Europe as a French weapon during the siege of Senlis and again in 984 at the siege of Verdun. They were used at the battle of Hastings in 1066 and by the 12th century it had become a common battlefield weapon. The crossbow superseded hand bows in many European armies during the 12th century, except in England, where the longbow was more popular.
Historically accurate game ready asset modeled in Blender and high quality PBR (Diffuse/Metallic/Roughness/Normal_OpenGL) textures in Substance Painter at 4k 2k and 1k resolution and subdivision ready for different LOD implementations, at FBX and OBJ files to work with any 3D software.
