Here is a Bronze Shield I made as part of my Masters Degree for a quick idea generation module. I took inspiration from both roman shields and vikings to come up with the design. This statue comes from the Forum Boarium in Rome, where it was found during the pontificate of Sixtus IV (1471-1484). The statue likely represented the cult statue whithin the temple dedicated to the Greek hero, and previously thought to be a temple of Vesta (due to its circular form, surrounded by columns). There are significant remains of gilding (gold leaf).
Hercules (Greek: Herakles) holds the Apples of the Hesperides in one hand and his signature club in the other.
The statue is approximately 250 cm tall (~8 ft), displayed atop a tall pedestal, and is slightly reflective due to the gilding, making it difficult to photograph.
