My submission for a past Sketchwars theme: redo a classic… My thought is that something went astray with the Thunderbird between 1963 and 1967. My 3D sketch is a proposal for a different aesthetic bridge between the lovely 1963 body style and the somewhat radical departure of 1967. This took 4 hours to do, completely done in 3D while immersed in VR using Gravity Sketch. I had 2D reference pictures in the scene, but all the ideation of the forms was done in 3D. This is a non-traditional medium (skipping 2D) so I did a bunch of tweaking with post process effects to give it a more grainy textured paper/punchy colors/rendered look … minus the dabs of white gouache for highlights! A low poly model of the stormtrooper blaster, mostly based on A New Hope rather than Battlefront’s RotJ version, textured in Substance Painter. Not detailed enough for a 1st person view, but great for full body distance! I’d price it lower but sketchfab’s minimum is $3.99- I’ll bundle it into my upcoming stormtrooper if you want both. The RotJ version’s biggest difference is the different barrel grip design and no techy pieces attached to the left side. ANH also has a lot of variation, partly because those techy pieces fell off some of the props, partly because they just used mismatched parts in general. Aside from being slightly simplified (eg. I have a smooth wire instead of 2 curly wires to save on polycount, there is no trigger to avoid clipping—although many screen-used ones in ANH also have no trigger!), I also made a conscious change to add back in the one missing grip from the left side of the barrel in ANH where there was a bayonet attachment and a row of holes instead.
