Fossil containing two adult Taxocrinus Meeki, one young Taxocrinus Meeki, two Pentrimites stems and one Platyceras. Lower Carboniferous. Crawfordsville, Indiana. Taxocrinus is a crinoid and Pentrimites is a Blastoid; both of the phylum Echinodermata. Platyceras is a Gastropod; phylum Mollusca. This specimen is a good illustration of Platyceras being commensal on Taxocrinus. Fossils are often a labour of love and this is a good example of that. Sometimes they tell a story too. This ammonite assemblage from the Jurassic green ammonite beds of Charmouth, Dorset seems to have been trapped inside a larger Liparoceras ammonite. However, only pieces of the larger ammonite remain, perhaps as a result of breaking apart from the pressure of the smaller ammonites trapped in the body chamber. There are several different species preserved including Tragyphyloceras, Aegoceras? shells and juvenile ammonite specimens.
