The hennin was a headdress in the shape of a cone, steeple, or truncated cone worn in the late Middle Ages by European women of the nobility. They were most common in Burgundy and France, but also elsewhere, especially at the English courts, and in Northern Europe, Hungary and Poland. They are little seen in Italy. It is unclear what styles the word hennin described at the time, though it is recorded as being used in French in 1428, probably before the conical style appeared. The word does not appear in English until the 19th century. This was made for VRChat’s 2022 New Years celebration and was featured in their VRC Square environment to represent the VRCPrefabs community.
VRCPrefabs is a VRChat development community focused mainly on creating + helping others create interactive experiences within social VR.
The original Prefabs logo itself was designed by BlueASIS, Tero and CyanLaser.
For this project, we had a narrow turnaround of 12 days to go from concept to final. VRChat needed to support first-generation Oculus Quest hardware (mobile hardware) in their New Years environment so we were given a very tight perf budget of 2,500 polys, a single material, and a 1024x1024 max res limit for any textures.
