In the 1950s, LeTourneau Inc. developed several overland trains, essentially oversized semi-trailer trucks that could travel over almost any terrain. Their intention was to be able to handle logistics needs without being dependent on local road or rail systems, allowing them to operate in back-country areas. The US Army had three experimental units built, the largest reaching almost 600 feet (183 m) long, which holds the record for the longest off-road vehicle. The Mark II had a much larger six-wheeled cab that was over 30 feet (9.1 m). The turbine engine was much smaller than the diesel it replaced, allowing the interior to support a crew of six with sleeping quarters, toilets and a galley. It was even equipped with a radar. An additional two power cars and ten cargo cars were built for testing. Triva: The InterCity Express (QR ICE) was a class of electric multiple units built by Walkers, Maryborough, for Queensland Rail in 1987/89. Initially intended for the Spirit of Capricorn, a long-distance rail service, operated from 1988 to 2003 between Rockhampton and Brisbane. These trains were later repurposed for the Sunshine Coast line until mid-2021, when all units were retired being replaced by the New Generation Rollingstock.

Testing my train-rig with an animation on an unrealistic curve
(the curve is a bit to sharp, train would crash in real life).
I’m not 100% happy with the rig but so far it works well , the axes recognize the animation path, steering works and everything is on rail.
Next, I’ll create the rig for the wagons and add some tire rotation.
