Most flying car proposals are pure sci-fi or represent some sort of compromise, they lack the functionality of either the car or the airplane - usually because they are trying to be an all-in-one solution. My idea is to split the flying car into parts: the people part, the flying part, and the car part - each gets to be good at what it does without compromising too much. This new form of the Bentley “Flying Spur” is more akin to a service like NetJets than a car lease. You don’t buy the car, you own pod with the seats. When you want to go somewhere, the car part autonomously drives you to the most convenient pickup point, the flying part grabs the pod, you fly to your destination where another car is waiting to grab your pod and drive you to wherever you need to go. My take on a conceptual reboot of the mighty Mercedes Benz SLS AMG “Gullwing”. Had fun detailing the grille and headlights on this one. Aesthetic attempts to capture the allure of the original 300SL, with pronounced fender haunches… combined with pushing the current MB family design cues. This landscape was made entirely in VR with Gravity Sketch for a tutorial on my channel. It utilizes an original workflow of mine where I use Gravity Sketches volume brush to create convex shapes that can easily be converted into clean geometry with booleans.
Each material can inherently share the same gradient texture as well, but to make it presentable in Sketchfab I have baked a unique color into each material’s gradient. This model also works extremely well with decimation, and can still retain it’s form when decimated by 99%. So it’s not your standard model, but with some tweaking there’s a lot you can do with it :)
