Vyborg Castle is a Swedish-built medieval fortress around which the town of Vyborg (today in Russia) evolved. It was originally constructed in the 1290s on the site of Karelian fortress after the Third Swedish Crusade to Finland. The town was originally located inside the outer fortifications of the castle. The mason is in the process of repairing the rear wall of the castle. He’s very industrious and talks about fixing up the castle and recovering the lost stone from the moat. Gargoyles on the castle were carved by the mason and he’s very proud of his work.
The medieval stonemason was a highly skilled craftsman. He served a seven year apprenticeship to learn his craft. Once a fully fledged stonemason, his skills were always in high demand.
