This project was probably one of the more complex models I’ve done. I first worked on the handle of the saber first since that’s where all the detail resides. A ship from the ’90s Expanded Universe, the I7 Howlrunner was a small starfighter developed by Incom Corporation (the same manufacturers as the X-wing) for the Empire. Probably best-known from the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, I stayed pretty faithful to the design, but made a couple of angles slightly more exciting and a little less boxy.
Out-of-universe, the ship’s design is probably an homage to the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter, concepted by Ralph McQuarrie, who also worked on Star Wars’ fighters. I wanted to make sure my version felt Star Wars-y enough, so I textured it in an extremely similar to the style of the OT X-wings. I hope you enjoy this slightly obscure ship model! This model is of a little-known ship from Empire Strikes Back, a tiny distant TIE shuttle that looks like a bomber with inverted wings, which Captain Needa uses to apologize to Vader in person. This model is mostly based on Jason Eaton’s rendition of the ship in the ‘TIE Fighter Owner’s Manual,’ but with some personal tweaks such as new engines and a thin viewport into the passenger compartment. A larger transport TIE, the TIE Boarding Craft can be seen in Rogue One and Andor, this guy’s not the most spacious! Quite a bit more detailed than my TIE fighter.
4 sets of textures- one for the wings, for the body, for the interior, and for the pilot. The interior and TIE pilot textures are the same as the ones in my regular TIE fighter model. If Sketchfab supported UDIMs, everything could be in 1 material using multiple UV tiles, but for now, it’s 5 separate materials (one more to be able to dial in the glass transparency, even though it uses the body textures.) Death troopers were an elite variant of the Galactic Empire’s stormtroopers specializing in stealth, espionage, and lethality. Operating under Imperial Intelligence, they served as a protective detachment for important Imperial officers and members of the Tarkin Initiative, as well as special assignment commandos. As with my other star wars ships, this model was also modelled and textured in Blender and Microsoft Paint. JSPlacement was also used when creating the hull plating texture.
Edit; I was told that there were apparently 2 variants of this star destroyer; the imperial-I class, and the imperial-II class. I was also told that the one I have here resembles the imperial-II variant, but since I don’t know the differences between variants, I don’t really know.
