This is a displaced and decimated model of Earth made from the most recent and accurate heightmaps and albedo maps I could attain. The land layer has full ocean displacement as well with a separate water and cloud layer. Ideally this is designed to use realtime masking on the emissive lights. I used a process of projection and UVs that results in no distortion at the poles or long vertical seam typical on most spherical objects. Treasure Planet is one of my favourite Disney films of all time and deserves more recognition. After watching the film again, I decided I’d make a 3D model of Jim’s Solar Board.
Originally I had wanted to animate it so that it folded down but after modelling and texturing, I just had to show it off.
