The Temple of Al-Lat (Arabic: معبد اللات), was an ancient temple located in Palmyra, Syria dedicated to the goddess Al-Lat. The temple was dedicated c. 123–164 A.D. The cult statue was made with an appearance similar to statues of the Greek goddess Athena in Athens. Inside the compound, a giant lion relief (Lion of Al-lāt) was excavated and, in its original form, was a relief protruding from the temple compound's wall. This model is created from the #NEWPALMYRA project, a community platform dedicated to the virtual remodeling and creative use of architecture from the endangered Syrian city of Palmyra. In ancient Assyria, hunting lions was considered the sport of kings, symbolic of the ruling monarch’s duty to protect and fight for his people. The sculpted reliefs in Room 10a illustrate the sporting exploits of the last great Assyrian king, Ashurbanipal (668–631 BC) and were created for his palace at Nineveh (in modern-day northern Iraq).
The hunt scenes, full of tension and realism, rank among the finest achievements of Assyrian Art. They depict the release of the lions, the ensuing chase and subsequent killing.

Over eight centuries old, the Bimaristan Nur al-Din, is the earliest surviving site for the development of Islamic medicine. Throughout the building’s lifetime, the site has functioned as a medical school as well as a place of healing in the heart of the old city of Damascus. Built in 1154, the building is characterized by its red brick muqarnas, elaborate entrance block, and finely carved wooden doors. The hospital was in use until the 20th century when it was converted into a Museum of Arabic Medicine and Science. The preservation of the building is a reminder of the major contributions of Islamic medicine to the world today.

The Umayyad Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus, located in the old city of Damascus, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world. It is considered by some Muslims to be the fourth-holiest place in Islam.
