This ancient and traditional bell is located inside premises of “Jesthavarna Mahvihar” in Kathmandu. Mahavihar are monasteries that are usually two stories tall, very much important to cultural community called “newar” who are Kathmandu’s historical inhabitants.
It is said that by ringing the bell, the devotee informs the deity of his arrival. This bell is beautifully carved and stands together with Buddha and other statues at the top.
There are various inscription within the temple on various objects like roof, walls written N.S 589, NS 793, NS 833, NS 993, which is equal to 1469 AD, 1673 AD, 1713 AD and 1813 AD. No inscription written on the bell was found.

Sculpture located at the gates of “Shree Padmavhati mahabihar” in Kathmandu. Two of them are installed at the gate to guard the temple. Since Newars,an important cultural community residing in Kathmandu were historical inhabitants of kathmandu valley and were buddhist, one of the major elements of this branch of Buddhism is “Mahavihara”. These monasteries generally are built in a courtyard and are about two storeys tall.. they are found to be built from 12th to 15th century. Many of these mahaviharas are listed as historical monuments of Nepal.

Sculpture of standing Buddha, made up of a single huge granite stone. This piece of history is located at swayambhunath temple in Kathmandu.
Built in 10th century, it is one of the oldest sculpture at swayambhu. It is located at the front side of the hill, on the old route to the stupa.
Word “swayambhu” in saskrit means self-manifestation meaning it was not made by human hands, but instead is naturally arisen, or generated by nature. So, people here believe the whole hill rose itself including most of the sculptures inside.
There are today other new routes including the west routes and new staircases to the stupa at the hill but the old route seems to hold important sculptures on the way, some even dating back to 7th/10th century.
