This is a displaced and decimated model of Earth made from the most recent and accurate heightmaps and albedo maps I could attain. The land layer has full ocean displacement as well with a separate water and cloud layer. Ideally this is designed to use realtime masking on the emissive lights. I used a process of projection and UVs that results in no distortion at the poles or long vertical seam typical on most spherical objects. As in the case of our moon, WASP-76b always shows the same face to its star because it rotates exactly once every time it orbits around its star (its rate of spin is synchronized with its rate of revolution). Scientists recently discovered that the face of the planet facing the star reaches temperatures so high that the iron is vaporized. As a result, when iron vapor is transported to the cooler side of the planet due to strong winds, it condenses in the atmosphere producing liquid iron rain. Treasure Planet is one of my favourite Disney films of all time and deserves more recognition. After watching the film again, I decided I’d make a 3D model of Jim’s Solar Board.
Originally I had wanted to animate it so that it folded down but after modelling and texturing, I just had to show it off.

After playing some Alien: Isolation I just had to make this model. After a day and a half of work, fueled mainly by hip hop, it is complete.
The face detail is actually all texture work and the face geometry itself is completely flat. I could have used a high-low poly bake but I decided instead to use an alpha and the height map stamping effect in Substance Painter as I was going to be spending a lot of time authoring the texture for the face text anyway I might as well just make an alpha for the imprint (also my laptop would probably just melt if I tried to work with a high poly with enough polygons).
