Over the course of the summer I made quite some 3D hand painted props for Ashleigh Warner’s CGMA course: Creating Stylized Game Assets.
This is the assignment for the first week, we had to create three cubes with all of them having an unique theme. The focus in this assignment was on creating a texture with two unique sides, focusing on painting.
The cube on the left is a stool, the one in the middle a crate with carrots and the one on the far right is just a ‘tech’ box.

This four cubes had been designed for a tiny videogame project that I am going to make using Unity and Android. The Nissan Cube was a Mini MPV that is built by the Nissan Motor Company. The first Cube arrived in 1998. It entered its second generation in 2002. The third generation launched in 2008 and ended production without a replacement in December 2019. The assembly for the Nissan Cube is in Oppama, Japan. They are sold in Japan and North America and in Europe only for 2010.

This shall be a portal to hell, which was my first 3D Artwork. The Stones with the illuminating signs shall represent the seven mortal sins: Wrath, jealousy, pride, lust, greed, sloth and gluttony. I tried to get specific signs for each sin in the topology of the stones, which was rather bad. Now its clear I should have textured these signs on the rocks. That would have been much easier and the result has been better. In the inner space of the portal are tentacles, one for each sin. Most of the portals I have seen are either stone or metal, so I wanted to create a stylised wooden, rustic Portal with some wood paint dye that has faded edges. Something that you may find in a medieval fantasy or the witcher.
I used blender to create the model and substance painter to texture it.
Most of the model is texture painted, aside from the painting that I stencilled around the base and there are some wood fibres that are procedurally generated. I created a particle system in blender and use a vertex force to get them to rotate. Blender doesn’t have a built in way to export animated particles, so I found a script online that I ran in Blender to convert the particle system to an animated mesh.
