This represents a Baroque dining table scene from the Feast and Fast exhibition held at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 2019-2020 curated by Vicky Avery and Melissa Calaresu. He was found associated with a limestone mortuary structure and there are suggestions that he was a person of importance in his community. Made of beautiful white marble, this bust represents François Thevenot sculpted by Gazzeri (signature engraved on the lower rear side). It is one of the many beautiful statues in the “Domaine Chavat” in Podensac near the river Garonne. François Thevenot bought this property in 1914, restored the gardens which hosts many beautiful statues, including this one. This statue is about twice life-sized, and the white marble is so pure that it is difficult to scan and volume is difficult to read in shadeless mode. The few specs of green are due to moss on this outdoor statue. Xiongnu-inspired Hunnic belt buckles for my project: The Legend of Oghuz Khan. The wolves on each buckle are shaped like clouds, symbolizing Oghuz’s sovereignty over the earth. In Hunnic and Turkic culture, the left or East is considered the superior cardinal direction; hence, a prince associated with the East would often be designated as heir to the khanate. As such, the horse, symbolizing the nomad, is placed on the East in contrast to the dragon that represents the Han, or non-bow wielding peoples. Nonetheless, both the horse and the dragon are shown to be powerless against the wolves that represent Hunnic superiority. Stylistically, the buckles emulate the classic look of Xiongnu and Hunnic jewelry: gold, granulated, with carnelians/agate stones, and cloud and predatory based motiffs. The belt is still a work in progress. The symbolic descriptions are not meant to be offensive. The planet is a vast desolate desert and orbits a close binary system consisting of a pair of G-type stars. At the time Tatooine was created by George Lucas, no extrasolar planets had yet been discovered. Today, we know the existence, in our galaxy, of thousands of stars with planets in orbit around them. Some of these are circumbinary planets, i.e. planets that orbit two stars instead of one … like Tatooine.
