The ordinance of 1636 by which the postal system was established in the kingdom of Sweden required postmen to wear an badge while on duty. This showed that the postman was on crown’s business. In practice not every postman had a badge which led to inconveniences. This type of brass badge was introduced in 1718. The emblem depicts a mounted postman blowing in a post horn.
