A model of a jeweller’s piercing saw, typically using for cutting out fine intricate work in conjunction with something called a bench pin. The blades are typically very thin and formed into a spiral which enables them to cut in any direction. From my experience of using one they also break… a lot. :P I guess they would be the hand-powered equivalent of a scroll saw.
