Well worn Cornish mine managers trousers in cream.
Authentic Cornish mining trousers in white/cream which indicates that they belonged to a mine manager. There are 2 buttons down the front with a functional belt. There are 3 belt loops going round the waist, one either side of the hips and one on the back. The trousers are incredibly well-worn with many different holes, tears and burn marks on them

The bottoms to the jacket (see model), which is made from the same wool/tweed that would have been incredibly uncomfortable to wear and probably irritated the skin. There are 8 buttons lining the waist band of the trousers, in sets of four sets of two buttons going across, and there is then 4 buttons going down the front of the trousers which were incredibly stiff to undo and redo. There are two welt pockets either side. A simple elaborate watered silk dress, in brown with a purple checked pattern being visible throughout. The silk has started to shatter, indicating the age and fragility of the garment. The cuffs on both of the sleeves are slightly worn and showing some evidence of wear.
There are hook and eye fastenings up the back of the dress, which would have been easier to fasten by the woman on her own, possibly indicating that she didn’t have someone available to dress her. The dress overall is incredibly modest, which could simply be indicative of the time period, along with that of the status of the woman wearing it. There is potential for this dress to have belonged to a wet nurse who was employed by a wealthy family to feed the babies.

The material used is a black cotton with the garment then being lined with silk. On the cuff of either sleeve there is a British army cap suggesting that the ranking of the person who originally owned and wore the garment. There is a naval stripe on the left shoulder where potentially medals would have hung or further indication of where the gentleman ranked on terms of the navy. There is a small split up the back of the garment, there to assist with movements such as getting in or out of vehicles or climbing on and off a horse.
