EEUU, 1886 Bicicleta de roda alta, també conegudes com a “grand by” o “penny- farthing”. Aquest tipus de bicicletes és caracteritzen per tenir dos rodes de diferents mides i transmissió directa, en què la força de la pedalada, s’aplica directament sobre l’eix d’una roda sense necessitat de cap tipus d’enginys. Les bicicletes de roda alta varen ser molt populars entre 1870 i 1880, i van tenir un paper destacat en les primeres competicions a lloms d’una bicicleta.
