Even now, all Komodaru were hand made by skilled artisans out of Japanese ceder, bamboo, and polypropylene.

In the mid-1960s, a monument for fallen soldiers of the Battle of Sutjeska was designed by sculptor Miodrag Zivkovic. In the Valley of Heroes, Zivkovic set up a magnificent monument on the top of a hill. The monument enriched the space of the already famous ossuary, built in 1958 by architect Sakeb Hadzihalilovic, with the remaining bodies of 3301 Partisan soldier who died in the Schwarz operation. After two years of construction, Zivkovic’s monument was ceremoniously opened in 1972.
Wings of victory are placed on the top of the hill so that the entire valley of the Sutjeska River can be seen. The valley, bearing blood and suffering of less than a century old battle, is now protected by a magnificent white monument. The Soviet RG-42 (Ручная Граната образца 42 года > Ruchnaya Granata obraztsa 42 goda, “Hand Grenade pattern of [19]42 year”) was a fragmentation grenade designed by S.G. Korshunov.[1]
It was originally introduced during World War II from 1942 onwards as an emergency measure to replace the complex RGD-33 grenade. It continued in use with the USSR and its Warsaw Pact allies in the post-war period until replaced in 1954 by the RGD-5 grenade. Stockpiles were held for emergency or reserve issue, military aid, or foreign sales. They were eventually destroyed in the 1980s due to the TNT filling degrading and becoming unsafe.
Unlike the RGD-33, the RG-42’s components were simple to produce and assemble. Only the fuze required specialized manufacture and the parts could be easily assembled by hand by cottage labor.
