This helmet is part of a suit armour with similar decorative grooves as on the helmet’s skull. This type of armour is often referred to as Maximilian armour (after the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I). The bellows visor on the helmet is also characteristic of this type of armour. It was thought, during the 19th century, that the helmet had belonged to King Johan I of Sweden (who died in 1222) but it was later revealed that the helmet had in fact been made in Germany around 1510 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 1000000 polygons.

This helmet, with its rather special appearance, is one of the few preserved objects that we know was owned by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. It was made in Germany in 1540, probably in Augsburg or Nuremberg, which were home to some of the most skilled armour makers of the time. The visor, the part that covers the face, did not originally belong to the helmet, but it is thought to be of the same period. A helmet of this type was made not for battle but for celebratory occasions. In the 16th century, full suits of steel armour were the height of fashion. For parades and other royal festivities, the social elite would dress up in specially-made sets of costume armour with a close helmet. During these celebrations it became popular, in the early 16th century, to wear close helmets with grotesque visors in the form of animal or human faces, like this one, to enhance the festive atmosphere and heighten the sense of theatricality. This helmet features decorative grooves on the skull and the visor has been extended into a beak. As late as in 1866, the helmet was thought to have belonged to King Magnus Ladulås (dead in 1290) and was on display in the Riddarholmen Church together with a suit of armour consisting of unrelated parts. However, King Magnus would never have come across the helmet which was made in Germany in the 1530s 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 1000000 polygons.

Shield belonging to a suit of Parade Armour. At the Royal Armoury in Stockholm the suit of parade armour of Eric XIV is exhibited. It is a full body armour that was delivered to the king in 1562. It weighs 20,6 kg and is about 170 cm tall. The surface is completely covered with relief decor. There are scenes of battle, prisoners, shields and weapons as well as figures of the Gothic, Roman and Greek mythology and ornamental plants and flowers. We can also see symbols of the Swedish kingdom. Many artisans worked together to complete the armour. The relief decor was made by the goldsmith Eliseus Libaerts. The armour was worn by Eric XIV as he rode into Stockholm, on the 22 October 1564, after the victory against Denmark. - Shield of the King Erik XIV - 3D model by livrustkammaren 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 158028 polygons.

The helmet was fashioned in southern Germany circa 1540, and is unusual because it is one of the few surviving helmets adorned with a crown. It was purchased in Augsburg on the King’s behalf by his agent, the merchant Claus Heijder. The helmet was likely used in Gustav Vasa’s funeral procession in 1560, because a helmet adorned with a gilded crown is mentioned by a contemporary who witnessed the ceremony. The gilded crown is medieval in style – a suitable symbol of Gustav Vasa, who had one foot in the old union and one in the newly minted hereditary monarchy 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 1000000 polygons.
