Exterior and interior of a so called smoke cabin, from the 15th or 16th century. Ruins of the cabin were found at the archaeological excavations of the medieval village Gubbacka in present day Vantaa in Finland. People and some of the domestic animals of the village live together inside the cabin during the cold winter. The large furnace covers one fourth of the total floor area.
