The M1A4E3 Abrams began its life in 2020 as the M1AWSTB (Advanced Weapons Systems Test Bed) when the U.S. Army put out a request for a more powerful armament for its M1A3 tanks. 4 years and 3 developmental prototypes later and the A4E3 was finally entered into service. The entire program cost over $16 billion dollars from concept to production and each tank cost $32 million to produce, limiting the production to only 196 examples. The new tank boasted a number of new features and advantages over previous Abrams models and was a cut above any other current generation tank. The XMX-100 Bi-lateral Railgun was the first magnetic projection weapon ever to enter operational service. It was capable of firing a 48lb projectile at a muzzle velocity of over 8,100 feet per second, or just over Mach 7. The resulting impact has over 107,000 newtons of force. The M1A4E3 was set to revolutionize tank warfare in the mid 2020’s.
