Ghost Rider is the name of multiple antiheroes and superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Marvel had previously used the name for a Western character whose name was later changed to Phantom Rider.
The first supernatural Ghost Rider is stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who, to save the life of his father, agrees to give his soul to “Satan” (later revealed to be an arch-demon named Mephisto). At night and when around evil, Blaze finds his flesh consumed by hellfire, causing his head to become a flaming skull. He rides a fiery motorcycle and wields blasts of hellfire from his body, usually from his skeletal hands. He eventually learns he has been bonded with the demon Zarathos. Blaze is featured in the Ghost Rider series from 1972 to 1983.
The subsequent Ghost Rider series (1990–1998) features Danny Ketch as a new Ghost Rider. This is a displaced and decimated model of the Moon made from the most recent and accurate heightmaps and albedo maps I could attain. I used a process of projection and UVs that results in no distortion at the poles or long vertical seam typical on most spherical objects. Decided to go wayyy out of my comfort zone with a fully handpainted model… and I’m pretty happy with it! The process took me much longer than expected, too, but better late then never hah.
I was obviously inspired by Zelda, so I wanted to make it a small contribution to that as well. And it was a good wood painting exercise!
Credits to rommalart for the model and Jasmin for the retopo! I did edit the UVs to fit my own work flow a bit better.
