Personal starfighter of the cyborg General Grievous, based on the one seen in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. This model is why I started learning Blender. Roblox Studio just wouldn't cut it for this one. Even so, took ages to get the shape right. A ship from the ’90s Expanded Universe, the I7 Howlrunner was a small starfighter developed by Incom Corporation (the same manufacturers as the X-wing) for the Empire. Probably best-known from the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, I stayed pretty faithful to the design, but made a couple of angles slightly more exciting and a little less boxy.
Out-of-universe, the ship’s design is probably an homage to the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter, concepted by Ralph McQuarrie, who also worked on Star Wars’ fighters. I wanted to make sure my version felt Star Wars-y enough, so I textured it in an extremely similar to the style of the OT X-wings. I hope you enjoy this slightly obscure ship model! An update of my old low poly TIE fighter model, with windows cut in and a low poly interior, complete with pilot, added- adds a ton of depth and realism. None of it is meant to hold up in closeups, but it looks great from afar. The whole thing is ~5.5k tris, so if you want a hangar full or a fleet of them, it won’t slow down your scene. Perfect for all your imperial needs!
PBR textures made in Substance Painter. The exterior is 2k, the interior is 1k, the pilot is 512x512.
Cutting in the windows a couple years after the outside model was done made for some very messy topology around them, but the overall ship is still low poly enough, and no one will notice. The glass is also currently single-sided, just to be more performant than trying to have glass with thickness and refraction.
