This wooden ‘Green Man’ carving came from the screen in Owston Abbey, Leicestershire, which was an Augustinian monastry. It was cut out during renovations in the 19th century. The ‘Green Man’ has a long and interesting history as it appears in both non-Christian and Christian traditions. The Green Man has been associated with seasonal rebirth and renewal and as such transferred easily into Christian imagery. Rex Greeno was born on Flinders Island in Bass Strait. His Aboriginal heritage comes from his mother, Dulcie Greeno, a noted shell necklace maker, and his grandfather, Silas Mansell, who taught him mutton-birding, kangaroo and wallaby-snaring, and how to make boats. After retiring from 40 years as a professional fisherman, Greeno used his knowledge of the sea to resurrect the art of traditional canoe construction, which had not been seen in Tasmania since the early 19th century. Highly detailed very ornate ring the I sculpted in the likeness of old school scrollwork for that medieval design and look. This ring is made from Argentinium Silver that has the hardness and strength of an alloy with a higher silver content than traditional sterling silver, delivering very white color, high reflectivity and hardness, which makes Jewelry made with this alloy particularly resistant to wear and scratching. The artwork of this ring in silver has been made in the same way the medieval silversmiths did according to the ancient traditions of lost wax casting. It is a solid back ring, not hallowed out under the designs, with scrollwork ranging from 2.5mm to 5mm solid around the ring, a full 30 grams of silver.
