This is a <36k polygon Viking character in the style of the Sea of Thieves game, modelled and sculpted in ZBrush and 2k textures made in Substance Painter. The intent for this piece was for me to study how to sculpt the anatomy of the torso and arms in a stylised way. The Skuldelev ships are a group of five well preserved 11th century ships from the Viking period, found in the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark near the town of Skuldelev. Skuldelev 2 was a large ocean going longship, a war vessel probably known as a Skeid - the type of vessel also known in the sagas as “dragon ships”. From analyzing the wood of the ship archaeologists were able to determine the ship had been built in Ireland around the 1040’s CE, the furthest away of all the Skuldelev ships. This digital recreation is based on the ‘The Sea Stallion from Glendalough’, a full scale reconstruction made by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum.
