I chose to model the guitar that Joel gives to Ellie as I felt that it was a physical embodiment of their relationship which is my favorite thing about the games. It’s also different to a lot of my other portfolio pieces as I tend to model weapons. I found this piece quite challenging as the sunburst pattern on the body of the guitar took some time to get right as I had not done too much hand painted texturing within Substance Painter but I am very happy with the results. Here’s my process using blender: I box modeled the body, the arms and the head as separate objects and smoothed everything with the subdivison surface modifier. For the texture I used a wacom tablet in combination with blenders texture paint mode. I have no experience with texture painting, but I’m quite happy with the first result. I merged all objects and rigged the character in T-pose.
