Sculpture of standing Buddha, made up of a single huge granite stone. This piece of history is located at swayambhunath temple in Kathmandu. Built in 10th century, it is one of the oldest sculpture at swayambhu. It is located at the front side of the hill, on the old route to the stupa. Word “swayambhu" in saskrit means self-manifestation meaning it was not made by human hands, but instead is naturally arisen, or generated by nature. So, people here believe the whole hill rose itself including most of the sculptures inside. There are today other new routes including the west routes and new staircases to the stupa at the hill but the old route seems to hold important sculptures on the way, some even dating back to 7th/10th century. The Leshan Giant Buddha is a 71 metre tall stone statue, built between 713 and 803 (during the Tang dynasty). It is carved out of a cliff face of Cretaceous red bed sandstones that lies at the confluence of the Min River and Dadu River in the southern part of Sichuan Province in China, near the city of Leshan. The stone sculpture faces Mount Emei, with the rivers flowing below its feet. It is the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world and it is by far the tallest pre-modern statue in the world. It is over 4-kilometre from the Wuyou Temple.
The Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
