This is “The Big Red Mountain” with the city of Ivins, Utah, US constantly growing northward toward its base. I did part of my growing up here. The name is funny because it’s not really big (I could climb it within a couple of hours). Plus, while being a “mountain” by definition, it’s more of a weird half-plateau. Define it as you will, it’s beautiful and special to me. The Red Dress project, conceived by British artist Kirstie Macleod, provides an artistic platform for women around the world, many of whom are vulnerable and live in poverty, to tell their stories through embroidery. From 2009 to 2022, pieces of the Red Dress travelled the globe being continuously embroidered onto. Constructed out of 84 pieces of burgundy silk dupion, the garment has been worked on by 363 women and 7 men from 50 countries.
